Coast set to be smashed by severe thunderstorms
BREAKING: A series of severe thunderstorms are rolling towards the Sunshine Coast threatening to bring damaging winds and large hailstones.
The Bureau of Meteorology warned that, at 5.15 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar west of Kilcoy.
These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast.
EARLIER: A series of storm cells are bearing down on the Sunshine Coast this afternoon as the Bureau of Meteorology begins issuing warnings.
The powerful cells are moving northeast and are currently around Toowoomba and Somerset Dam, with Caboolture squarely in the firing line.
The systems are tracking towards the Coast and forecasters have warned of large hailstones and damaging winds.
The next official warning is due in about 40 minutes.
